Mawson's Hut

Sir Douglas Mawson was an Australian scientist and Antarctic explorer. Watch this clip and leave a comment about your impressions of Antarctic exploration in the early 1900's.

Hi Mr. Waugh,

I don't have many impressions on this video, but I'm surprised they managed to put a camera crew in that wind!

Wow I can't believe how windy it is in Antarctica. So much has stayed the same, and having both of the huts fixed a little bit was a good idea

Good that they are keeping the place sturdy to show people about how they lived back then

Its amazing how they built the hit and they weren't builders, also its sort of funny that when there was a blizzard that they couldn't really walk.

It is amazing that they still have the mawsons hut.
It has been so long.

I think it is a great idea keeping everything strong so people can see what it was like

I agree Jake

Also I think it would be a little bit fun to have stayed in Mawsons hut

I can't believe that was actually the hut that Masson lived in.
To be honest I didn't even know or even heard of Masson until this year when we learned about Antarctica.
How did they got the footage of when they first went to Antarctic in the early years when video was nearly invented?

Wow! It took only 15 days tonbuild something so stable and they weren't even builders!

Hi Mr. Waugh, I have already sent you a comment about Mawson's Hut, but I found a really good app. It's called Chalkboard Free. It's another drawing app, but it was just a suggestion.

I am going to ask the same question as Mylee When and where did they get the footage from

Dear MrWaugh

I loved it how they rebuilt Maisons hut and when they got there it was covered in ice and also how there are still objects of thins from when they were there.

Great to see Australian and Antarctic history restored to its former self by a group of people and to see items that where owned and used a hundred years ago and still looking like its former self is amazing.

Wow, that's amazing. Antarctica has such strong winds and the hut is almost as it was 100 years ago. I also think is great that people are helping to preserve such a important part of Australian history and exploration.

Dear Mr. Waugh
The movie was very interesting. I never knew that Douglas Mawson brought over to Antarctica scientists who were 20 years old. The scientists made it look so easy to build a house. It was amazing how the house nearly got buried under the snow. I was surprised they left their equipment and research.

Dear Mr Waugh

that amazing that the hut is still there but they had to fix it a bit.

It would have been hard to fix in the cold
